In the days of the revolution

Countless braves dared to up rise in arms

Like floods, sweeping the land under, spirit of nationalism was set in violent motion

Of the heroes of that time: General Gicheru Ndung’u was the god-like strategist at the van

In the fraternity of the gallant his legendary acts persist still;

In feeling over confident, the foe underestimated his martial skills

In famed battles of Mũiga and Nyandarwa, non-bettered him in schemes which never went astray

Gathered beneath his gun countless soldiers swore the oath never to betray

The last days of ‘the empire’, alas! Were at hand,

For our sake, heaven permitted the General’s birth to defend our land
