FACING THE GUN POWDER

Day and night the war rages on without stop
Since the campaign begun how many bitter years have vainly passed?
Captives are used to facing the foe’s noose and drop
But what loyal solder would the oath have betrayed?
Like torrential rains bombs and missiles daily fall on us without break;
The bomber air-crafts assaults where most weak.
Tidings from home no longer reach the frontiers
Cut off, doleful songs of childhood from nostalgic solders move me to tears.
I entered the forest at 18, at 44 I’m still facing the gun powder at the border town.
We march over vast territories, dew wet my battle gown.
What year will sovereigns bury old grudges and sign a truce?
That day we’ll slaughter a goat, and with ours foes dance and embrace.
